another day in this carnival of
souls
i can't seem to find my way home
It was around eight o'clock in the morning on a dark, dreary, rainy day. For once, the weather outside the little window in their room reflected Kaede's mood quite well.
She was curled up in the bed she shared with Akiko, buried under a nest of blankets with a fluffy pillow hiding her face. She was warm and toasty and nursing what she was pretty sure was the worst hangover she had ever had. For one long moment, she had considered killing the hangover by raiding the liquor cabinet... but the longer she thought about what she'd have to do to get it, she decided that it certainly wasn't worth the trouble.
Instead, she'd started cuddling the other big fluffy pillow and trying to lull herself back to sleep so she just didn't have to deal with it.
She felt like such a goddamn nuisance after what had happened the previous day, like all she ever did was cause Akiko trouble and she couldn't ever do a damn thing right. It was times like this that made her wonder why her sister even bothered with her. All throughout their lives, Akiko had been the one picking up the pieces after Kaede fucked something up again. Fuck, Akiko was the only reason she was still alive.
And what had she ever done in return?
Fuck up again and again and again. Stress out her already stressed sister. Generally prove that she was incompetent at life in general.
Akiko had to have the patience of a saint to deal with her.
Kaede didn't know how she did it. How Akiko could love someone like her. Hell, she didn't like herself ninety percent of the time, so when others didn't like her it hardly even phased her... Which was why she didn't understand how Akiko could still love her even after all the trouble she had caused.
Rolling onto her back, still hugging the pillow, Kaede drifted off into sleep again.
If anyone happened to walk into the room at the time, they would hear the jounin crying out for her sister while she slept.
