In times long gone, the world was a violent place. Filled with chaos and a constant state of war. Legends say that in these ancient times the Rikudo Sennin used his unique power to change the world. As the first shinobi, the Sennin gave birth to all ninjutsu that exists to this day. From his blood descended two clans, the Uchiha and the Senju. These two were engaged in war, each believing themselves to be the true heirs to the Sennin's bloodline. It was not until two men, one from each clan, stepped forward to half the violence. It was from this union that the first shinobi village was created. Konohagakure, the village hidden in the leaves.
Peace followed the founding of the village for many years, but wouldn't last forever. The restless heart of the Uchiha leader Madara, whom had known nothing but battle since he was very young, found the peace boring. He eventually left the village, betraying his former comrades. This betrayal eventually lead to an ultimate showdown between Madara and Senju leader, Hashirama. The result was thought to have been a draw, with both great shinobi perishing to one another.
Decades would pass and, although they weren't always peaceful, the village continued to develop and flourish. That peace became threatened, however, with appearance of a man who claimed to be Madara. In his wake, chaos followed. Destruction rained down, and war kicked up once again. This time, however, the shinobi villages were on the same side. An alliance had been formed, one that had not been seen since the time of Hashirama. Along with them, the Samurai of the Land of Iron took their own stance against the villain who called himself Madara.
Through the ocean of blood and over the mountain of corpses, Madara had finally been defeated. His own arrogance, his own hubris, lead to his downfall. The power of the Bijuu, the nine sacred beasts, had been absorbed my Madara and transformed him into the new Rikudo Sennin. That power, however, did not come without a price. For all his pride and boasting, he was unable to wield the power that he had gained. It was not all his fault, however. He was unable to complete the Jyuubi due to the actions of a single shinobi nearly two decades earlier.
Minato Namikaze, the fourth Hokage of Konohagakure, had sealed half of the Kyuubi inside himself before granting the rest to his son. Due to this, the Jyuubi was incomplete. It collapsed, and scattered in the form of eight sacred artifacts. No longer on a rampage, the false Madara's plans were put at an end. His defeat, however, came at a high price.
Almost eighty percent of the shinobi world had been wiped out. Slaughtered in the war that Madara brought with him. Fragments of clans, villages and communities would flee the battlefield. They would retreat back to their villages, towns, and countires in an attempt to nurse their wounds. In the chaos that ensued, small conflicts started to kick up. Fighting began to break out over the few resources that were left. To avoid annihilation, many communities packed up and moved out. Abandoning the places that they had called home for many generations.
Nine centuries have passed since the Fourth Shinobi War, and the clans are finally beginning to return. Villages have sprang up almost overnight. Instead of nations, three families have taken over each village. With them, the traditions and beliefs of the Shinobi are slowly returning. Their movements have not gone unnoticed, however. Deep within the Three Wolves Mountains, the Samurai have been regaining strength. Their boarders expanding, the population booming.
Of course as everyone knows, with every light comes darkness. Following in the shadows of the Shinobi comes a strange and ancient religion. Although not much is known about them at this point, the tales call their beliefs the work of the devil.
